Operations Research Analyst

Job Summary:
The Operations Research Analyst will apply advanced mathematical, statistical, and analytical methods to evaluate and optimize the bank’s fintech and traditional banking operations. This role focuses on developing models, conducting research, and applying quantitative methods to improve decision-making, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure compliance within a rapidly growing financial technology environment.
The ideal candidate will combine expertise in financial technologies, payment systems, and data analysis with strong problem-solving skills to support the integration of fintech solutions into our banking framework.
 
Requirements:
  • Possess a deep understanding of fintech products, including their financial models, vendor relationships, unit economics, fraud prevention strategies, and customer acquisition processes.
  • Experience with Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and BIN sponsorship models is a plus—including partner onboarding, transaction monitoring, and regulatory oversight.
  • Strong familiarity with payment systems, card issuance, merchant card processing, and program management—including compliance with Visa and Mastercard regulations.
  • Knowledge of Jack Henry core banking systems and their integration into fintech platforms is highly desirable.
  • Collaborate with key departments—marketing, accounts payable, fraud prevention, customer support, and analytics—to gather and analyze data essential for operational decision-making.
  • Oversee GL and payment reconciliation for each fintech product, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Partner with the product and IT teams to develop new fintech offerings and integrate them seamlessly into the bank’s infrastructure.
  • Prepare and review monthly accounting reports and reconciliation for each fintech product to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual budget assessments to track the financial performance of fintech products and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Support and manage the operational aspects of the bank’s fintech program, ensuring smooth onboarding, integration, and transaction processing in collaboration with fintech review teams.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Quantitative Analysis & Modeling
    • Develop mathematical and statistical models to evaluate operational efficiency, payment flows, and reconciliation accuracy.
    • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to forecast the financial and operational impact of new fintech initiatives.
    • Use optimization techniques to enhance processes related to ACH, wire transfers, BIN sponsorship, and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) programs.
  • Research & Data-Driven Insights
    • Research industry trends in fintech operations, fraud prevention, and payment systems to inform strategic decisions.
    • Apply statistical methods to identify patterns in transaction monitoring, risk indicators, and reconciliation discrepancies.
    • Evaluate partner data and third-party fintech vendor performance using unit economics, fraud prevention outcomes, and customer acquisition metrics.
  • Process Optimization
    • Use operations research techniques to streamline workflows, reduce inefficiencies, and scale processes for fintech partnerships.
    • Apply queueing models, simulation, and forecasting to improve transaction processing, settlement times, and account verification.
    • Recommend algorithmic or procedural improvements to enhance operational resilience and regulatory compliance.
  • Risk & Compliance Analytics
    • Analyze compliance and risk data to ensure adherence to NACHA rules, Visa/Mastercard regulations, and other banking standards.
    • Build monitoring frameworks for fraud detection and transaction risk management in BaaS and fintech operations.
    • Provide quantitative input into audits, regulatory reviews, and internal risk reporting.
  • Technology & Systems Research
    • Collaborate with IT and product teams to evaluate and implement fintech technologies, ensuring they meet operational and regulatory needs.
    • Conduct research into Jack Henry core banking integrations and model their impact on fintech product operations.
    • Develop testing methodologies to validate system performance and scalability of new fintech solutions.

Qualifications:
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience applying mathematical, statistical, or operations research methods in a financial, fintech, or banking environment.
  • Familiarity with Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), BIN sponsorship, ACH, wire transfers, and payment networks.
  • Experience with Jack Henry core banking systems or similar systems is a plus.
  • Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial technologies, payment processing, and reconciliation methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of fraud detection strategies, payment reconciliation, and vendor performance analysis.
  • Experience with third-party fintech partnerships and BaaS operational frameworks.
